QUANTITY SURVEYOR

We are looking to appoint an experienced, full-time Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to manage all pricing works relating to our house building and civil engineering projects, from the preparation of the client quotation and tender document to the final measures and the calculation of the P&L.  Applicants MUST have prior QS/Estimating experience within the construction sector.

We specialise in building low energy homes with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) – a relatively new, highly insulated and energy-efficient house building construction technique.   Our Civils division offers complete foundation and ground works packages for new build homes, including access roads, basements, retaining structures, external works and service connections. In addition, we work within the renewables sector, offering concreting and structural services to hydroelectric and windfarm schemes.  We are also specialists in gabion basket retaining systems and are one of the only companies in Scotland who are able to design, supply and install gabion basket retaining walls.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinating our pricing and tendering for all works across the company. Helping to develop our estimating process and implementing any changes/methods you might feel would improve this.
  • Appointing and liaising with sub-contractors, purchasing goods and materials along with assisting with procurement.
  • Liaising with all onsite personnel to maximise productivity.
  • Valuing completed work, keeping track of any variations, carrying out monthly measures, invoicing and arranging payments/agreeing measures with sub-contractors.
  • Performing CVRs and profit/loss calculations on projects and helping to develop some of our pricing systems etc.

This estimating work would be varied and across both the Civil Engineering and Building disciplines we deal with.  You will seek to minimise the cost of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulations are met.

This is a full time, permanent position ideally suited to someone who wants to further their career and it offers exciting opportunities for both personal and professional growth.  We have strategic plans in place to see major growth within our business over the next few years.

The applicant must be able to travel to rural location; our office is 2 miles from Auchterarder/10 miles from Perth and not on a bus route.

If this is of interest, we would be delighted to hear from you.  In the first instance, please send a copy of your CV and covering letter: Click here to email your CV

JML Contracts - Sam HartSam Hart (Operations & Business Development)
“The owners of JML Contracts, John and Katie Langley have helped me identify my key strengths allowing me to develop a role which advances my knowledge and career. I have attended various management training courses, received health and safety accreditations and enrolment onto a Level 5 SVQ. Since 2014 my role within the company has changed considerably, which is evidence of the directors’ ability to understand each team member’s expertise and development needs and helping each person progress. I don’t believe there are many companies in this marketplace that can have that said honestly about them.”
